Teen Sex Slaves Rescued by L.A. Cops

Over the weekend, as you were enjoying hot dogs, carne asada and beer, two underage girls were preparing to head home after the nightmare of having been forced into prostitution and held against their will in the L.A. area.

The L.A. County Sheriff's Department said the girls, one from Missouri and the other from Louisiana, were rescued by deputies with its Vice Unit and Surveillance Apprehension Team. Five people were arrested in connection with the case:

It started Friday when deputies out of the Compton sheriff's station were conducting a sex trafficking investigation and discovered that the two were being held, the Sheriff's Department says in a statement.

The girls were said to be runaways.

One of the victims was found in a motel in Artesia while the other was located at a home in South L.A., the department says.

The duo was turned over to doctors to be checked out before being placed in protective custody, cops said. The girls were cooperating with investigators.

Four men and one woman were arrested on suspicion of "felony conspiracy to commit human trafficking, false imprisonment and sex crimes against children," according to the sheriff's statement.

The suspects, who were ID'd only as residents of South L.A. and Long Beach, were jailed in lieu of at least $300,000 each, deputies said.
