The Tea Party has made national waves with its reassertion of conservative, angry-white-people ideals (because, if anyone has gotten the short end of the stick in the last hundred years of civilization, it's white conservatives -- poor things). Well, here come the liberals (chaotic, disorganized website and all), because if anyone's going to get whiny about right wingers standing up for their piece of the pie, it's progressives.
The Coffee Party movement, organized as an antidote to the Sarah Palin-loving Tea Party, will host National Coffee Party Day events throughout the United States Saturday, including several in the Los Angeles area. Chief among them is a gathering at Silver Lake's Sunset Junction (specifically at 4019 Sunset Boulevard) starting at 11:30 a.m.
The Huffington Post states that about 300 such get-togethers in 44 states will take place Saturday. We tried calling the party's press line to confirm this but got nowhere fast. Did we get a press release? No. They're off to a good start.
The party's website states that "we recognize that the federal government is not the enemy of the people, but the expression of our collective will, and that we must participate in the democratic process in order to address the challenges that we face as Americans."
