Take Note Roman Polanski: Teacher Gets Two Years For Sex With Minor
Take note, Roman Polanski: A Burbank middle school teacher who had sex with a 14-year-old student was sentenced to two years in prison Friday.
The woman, part of what seems like a wave of female teachers arrested for having sex with male students in recent years, had pleaded on contest unlawful sexual intercourse and committing a lewd act on a child. Amy Beck, a 33-year-old wife of a Los Angeles police officer and mother of three, was also given three years probation.
The former David Starr Jordan Middle School teacher will have to register as a sex offender. The woman, apparently unprovoked, confessed her crime to police in March, turning herself in to Burbank cops.
Director Polanski, by the way, admitted having sex with a 13-year-old in 1977 and served 42 days of psychiatric evaluation as part of what he thought was a plea deal that would let him go free afterward. However, when a judge indicated more time was in store, he fled to Europe, where he remains. Polanski has argued that he should be sentenced from afar for time served.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's office is attempting to extradite him for sentencing in L.A. As you can see from this sentence, attitudes about sex with minors have changed since the 1970s.
