The luck of the Irish doesn't apply to drunk drivers.
After all, Patrick was a saint, not a sinner. He wouldn't want you killing anyone, and neither do we. The Los Angeles Police Department even got lyrical about it:
Saint Patrick's Day invokes images of shamrocks, leprechauns, pots of gold and good luck. Unfortunately, no amount of luck can save you from a drunk-driving crash.
To that end, the LAPD wants to help you help yourself. The department and other law enforcement agencies are warning whiskey drinkers and other party-goers that cops will be on the hunt for drunks behind the wheel tonight.
They're even telling you where they'll be and when they'll be there. Here's the 411:
-From 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. an LAPD checkpoint will be awaiting your arrival at the hipster junction of Spring and Seventh streets downtown.
-From 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. a checkpoint will be rocking at Highland and De Longpre avenues along the southern exit from Hollywood clubland.
-From 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. there will be extra police on the streets of the LAPD's 77th Street Division of South L.A., a known bastion of Hibernophiles. Cops call this type of operation a DUI "saturation patrol."
-From 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. a saturation patrol will strike the luxurious communities patrolled by the LAPD's North Hollywood Division.
-The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department will conduct DUI patrols in the cities of Malibu and Palmdale.
-From 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Sheriff's deputies will be operating checkpoints at undisclosed locations in the cities of Bellflower and Pico Rivera.
-Long Beach police will conduct "roving DUI patrols" in their fair city.
