The 7-Eleven at 4092 Chino Hills Parkway in Chino Hills, in San Bernardino County, sold California's sole six-number ticket, according to the California Lottery.
The winning numbers were 4, 8, 19, 27 and 34, with a Powerball number of 10.
Crowds gathered at the store tonight. KCAL 9 news broadcast footage of the happy riot from a helicopter and from the ground.
People chanted, "Chino Hills, Chino Hills."
It's not clear if there are jackpot winners in other states.
"We do not know if this winning player will have to split the $1.586 billion with winners in other states and jurisdictions," state lottery officials said in a statement. "It will be a couple hours or even longer before we know if anyone in the 43 other states where Powerball is played (as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands) has won part of the record $1.586 billion jackpot."
UPDATE at 10:48 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016: A California Lottery spokesman confirmed to us that there are six-number jackpot winners in Florida and Tennessee, too.
