SoCal Cop Says She Was "Hoping" to "Run Over Some" Bicyclists (VIDEO)
A Southern California volunteer reserve police officer resigned over the weekend after video (below) of her saying she'd like to "run over some" bicyclists went viral.
Santa Paula police Chief Steven McLean said in a statement that "I have accepted the resignation of Volunteer Reserve Officer Laura Weintraub." He called her departure "the right thing for everyone involved."
Weintraub's video, part of an ongoing series she calls "Cup Holder Commentary," is clearly meant to be funny ... but it's not:
She says the clip is dedicated to "all the damn bicyclists I have to deal with." She says, "I'm hoping we'll run over some, uh, run into some soon."
Weintraub also says, "I hate bicyclists — every single one of them." And she tells a man driving the vehicle she's in, "How much do I have to pay you to run one of these over?"
Her jokes are knee-slappers. She aims one at a bike rider:
I bet you have a sticker on the back of your Prius that says my other car is a bicycle.
And then she targets another:
Looking good in that Spandex, buddy, said no one ever.
She even aims quips at local cops as she rides by several cruisers, saying, "Where are you guys when we need you?"
Wientraub apologized in a statement:
My comment was not intended to downplay the seriousness of the safety issues bikers face when they are out on the road. What I regret most is putting our Chief, officers and police department in a negative light. Many accused the Chief of making the comment, he did not. I also was the one that deleted some of the replies when the language became severe. I again sincerely appoligize for the comment and honestly wish everyone a safe journey out there on the road.
She has still reportedly received death threats.
