One of the suspects left behind a driver's side mirror, an LAPD traffic detective said, and investigators were taking that part to dealerships today in an effort to get an exact make and model for one of the two cars involved:
It happened about 10 p.m. Thursday in the 2200 block of Riverside Drive near Allesandro Elementary School, the detective told us.
According to an LAPD statement:
... A man crossing Riverside Drive just south of Fletcher Drive was struck by two vehicles heading southbound on Riverside Drive. Detectives believe he was lying on the pavement from the impact of the first vehicle when a second vehicle struck him and dragged his body a short distance. Both drivers left the scene without stopping to identify themselves or render aid as required by law.
The victim, who was wearing dark clothing, was pronounced dead at the scene by L.A. Fire Department paramedics, according to the LAPD.
One of the cars was described as a black Hyundai or Kia with damage to its left side, police said. If you can point cops to that car or if you have any info about who or where the suspects might be, detectives would love to hear from you: (213) 833-3713.
