Santa Monica Cops End Up in a Pig Pursuit

Santa Monica Cops End Up in a Pig Pursuit
Santa Monica Police Department

The other day we told you about a police pursuit of a tractor, and we marveled about what a rare, crazy chase that was in this very urban region.

Well, we spoke too soon.

Only days later the Santa Monica Police Department one-upped the Riverside County Sheriff's Department's Great Tractor Chase with a pig pursuit. Really:

Cops said it happened Wednesday when officers and park rangers were called to a report of a "loose pig."

"This doesn't happen everyday," the department stated.

"Sophie" led arriving authorities on a "foot pursuit," police said. But once she was cornered the porker was "taken into custody without incident."

Now, here's where the story gets strange, because we would have opted for punishment by luau, especially if this little piggy made us sweat.

(We're just kideen. Please withhold your hate emails.)

But, no, the kind officers of the SMPD took the plump, juicy perp to the Santa Monica Animal Shelter - far from our skillet, Roy Choi's kitchen, or Jonathan Gold's stomach - for safekeeping.

The owner was subsequently found. And Sophie was sent home.

"In case you're wondering," the department stated, "Sophie was visiting a friend's house when she escaped."

We'll leave the who-was-chasing-who pig jokes up to y'all.
