Revenge Porn: Posting XXX Pics of Your Ex Is Outlawed

End Revenge Porn / Facebook

Dear young, deep-voiced boy-men who think you're so damn clever and, once or twice in your life, actually got the girl:

The jig is up. A new law that outlaws so-called revenge porn, particularly sexualized photos and video posted for the world to see without the subject's permission, went into effect today. Sorry dudes:

The bill by Sen. Anthony Cannella was signed by Gov. Jerry Brown and went into effect over night, Cannella's spokesman, Jeff Macedo, told us.

It's one of the first such laws in the nation and seeks to prevent you guys from using one of the many revenge porn websites that have cropped up in recent years to express your dismay with your ex-lover's wise decision to leave you.

Here's a straightforward summary of the bill:

This bill would provide that any person who photographs or records by any means the image of the intimate body part or parts of another identifiable person, under circumstances where the parties agree or understand that the image shall remain private, and the person subsequently distributes the image taken, with the intent to cause serious emotional distress, and the depicted person suffers serious emotional distress, is guilty of disorderly conduct and subject to that same punishment.

Cannella states:

I want to thank Governor Brown for recognizing that this bill was needed. Until now, there was no tool for law enforcement to protect victims. Too many have had their lives upended because of an action of another that they trusted.

So now you know, Beavis and/or Butthead. Keep it to yourself.
