Republicans Go Bondage Clubbing In L.A. On Party Dime

The Republican National Committee came under fire Monday after reports revealed that it spent nearly $2,000 for entertainment at sexually charged West Hollywood club Voyeur, not to mention chairman Michael Steele's $9,099 spent at the Beverly Hills Hotel and another $6,596 charged at the nearby Four Seasons during a trip to L.A. in February.

Some reports have Steele as the club-goer, but Republican donor Erik Brown of Orange was the recipient of the $1,946.25 disbursement of cash from party coffers, according to the Washington Post. The Daily Caller's site, which seemed to have gone down as a result of traffic, broke the story. (It's back; the Caller also has had periodic updates).

The RNC told the Post that Steele was not at the club, which is known for its bondage-themed dancers. He "was never at the location in question, he had no knowledge of the expenditure, nor does he find the use of committee funds at such a location at all acceptable," a spokesperson said.

The RNC is investigating the expenditures.

"It was not anything sanctioned by the committee, and that is why we have requested an investigation," RNC spokesman Doug Heye told the Post. "Obviously, given the location, it's something that's not appropriate."

The RNC spent an additional $17,000 was spent on private jet travel, with another $13,000 going to limousine service, in February -- the month of the L.A. trip.
