Rapist Kidnapped Woman, Attacked Her for 11 Hours, Cops Say
A 25-year-old woman was kidnapped, held for 11 hours and "continuously sexually assaulted" yesterday, according to a sheriff's statement and reports.
The horror started about 3 a.m. Wednesday, and a suspect reportedly was nabbed last night in the area of Longden Avenue and 10th Street in Arcadia.
In a late-night statement, the L.A. County Sheriff's Department identified the suspect as 29-year-old Philippe Lutete. The department stated that he was "out on bond with a past similar arrest."
A man with the same name and age — he's 6 feet tall and 165 pounds — has a long list of arrests in the sheriff's inmate database.
Here's what deputies say happened, starting at 3 a.m:
The victim was abducted while walking in the vicinity of Longden Avenue and Peck Road, Arcadia, near the ARCO Gas Station. The suspect grabbed and carried the victim into his car. He drove the victim to his home where he continuously sexually assaulted her. The victim managed to escape and briefly speak to a neighbor when the suspect dragged her back into his home. The neighbor called law enforcement. When the deputies arrived at the home on a disturbance call, the suspect fled the location through a side window.
Cops were initially called to a home near Longden Avenue and 10th Street at 2 p.m. yesterday. They heard a woman screaming, according to City News Service. The suspect, however, apparently slipped away.
KCAL 9 reported that a SWAT team searching for the rapist gave up about 5 p.m. But authorities returned and made an arrest after a neighbor reported that a man fitting the description of the attacker had been spotted nearby.
The sheriff's department issued a statement minutes before 10 last night that says deputies "just located and arrested" Lutete.
Detectives said their investigation was ongoing.
