Radioactive Material Detected At Burbank Airport
File this one under spooky: Radioactive material was detected at a Southwest Airlines gate at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank Friday, prompting its closure.
Bob Hope Airport spokesman Victor Gill said the detection happened about 1 p.m. at the facility's A-1 gate. A hazardous-materials investigation ensued, and the gate was closed for about an hour.
Flights were not affected, and passengers were routed through another gate. It's not clear if the source of the detection was determined, but apparently any threat to passenger safety passed because the gate was reopened.
