Pot Shop Sells Marijuana Ice Cream: Cheech & Chong Movie Comes True (Sort Of)
If you think L.A.'s medical marijuana dispensaries are brazen -- with some reopening after being closed down and others simply turning to delivery in the face of being outlawed -- they don't have anything on the pot shops up north, where at least one outlet is a stone-cold chiller.
A new store near Santa Cruz, Crème De Cana, is serving up marijuana ice cream, reports the Action 8 News. Flavors include Banannabis Foster, Straw-Mari Cheesecake and Triple Chocolate Brownie. More flavors were reported to be in the making.
The product can't be consumed on-site at the Soquel, Calif. shop. It's sold in ($15) half-pints and is take-home only. The owner of the ice-cream dispensary says a half-pint is about eight-joints worth.
So if you ever doubted that dispensaries were the kind of serious, care-giving institutions legalized by California in 1996, have no doubts:
The Golden State's medical cannabis scene has turned into a Cheech & Chong movie. Frankly, that's fine with us. (Dave's never here). But we're not sure that voters who approved the nonprofit, collective cultivation and distribution of pot for the seriously ill had ice cream cannabis shops in mind.
