Over the Weekend: Prince Teases at Conga Room, Tune in Tokyo, Darker My Love and a Raunchy Lip-Synch Contest

Over the weekend, if you were one of the few Angelenos not stricken down with the flu, not partaking in last-minute shopping insanity and not rearranging the contents of your apartment to make room for relatives, then you had your pick of hot shows to go to. From Prince to Darker My Love to Tune in Tokyo and a Lip-Synch contest, this weekend was all about the music. Here's what we did and who we may (or may not) have seen:

(Photo from Coachella '08, by Timothy Norris.) Well, we'd like to have a photograph of Prince's surprise appearance at the Conga Room on Friday but, alas, the "Purple One" left without performing a single note. Earlier that day the L.A. Weekly was tipped off that Prince planned to jam with Brian Culbertson that evening, and although he was in the building, we can only assume Prince had last minute a change of heart. Read all about the drama in Randall Roberts' "Prince Shows Up At Conga Room, Teases Us, Then Leaves to Play Basketball and Eat Pancakes."

Liz Ohanesian hung out at Thursday night's second installment of Tune in Tokyo, promoted by the International Pop Conspiracy

team, "where L.A. fans of modern Japanese music, known as Jpop and Jrock,

gathered to hear DJs Greg Hignight, Tora, Del, Ally Cat and Yuki give a

sampling of what's big in Japan right now, ranging from electronic pop

to a dramatic style of hard rock known as visual kei." Read Ohanesian's article "Tune in Tokyo: Where Jpop and Jrock Rule."

Darker My Love at the Echoplex

Over the Weekend: Prince Teases at Conga Room, Tune in Tokyo, Darker My Love and a Raunchy Lip-Synch Contest

Paul Rogers braved the "bearded 'n' baseball-capped Brite Spot brunchers" at the Echoplex on Friday night for a cinematic set by Darker My Love. Read Rogers' full review here.

Lip-Synch Big Stink Contest at Mountain Bar

Over the Weekend: Prince Teases at Conga Room, Tune in Tokyo, Darker My Love and a Raunchy Lip-Synch Contest

Sophia Kercher partied with a drunk Santa who made snow angels in a pile of fake cocaine at the Lip-Synch Big Stink contest at the Mountain Bar on Saturday. Read more about her adventures in her "Last Night" blog.
