Over the Weekend: 99-Cent Calendar Girls, Indie 103.1's First Fridays, Reindeers & Spheres at Gagosian

If you're like me, one of the many Angelenos still fighting this cold that won't quit, this past weekend proved overwhelming with the amount of events to busy ourselves with. Who needs to stay in and do laundry when you can go watch Lenora Claire chew glass at Bordello? L.A. Weekly hit the town hard, so stay tuned later today and tomorrow for even more over the weekend coverage of the Real Black Dahlia Esotouric crime bus tour, the Devils Playground Sexy Sideshow Girls at Bordello bar, plus the Adult Entertainment Expo and AVN Awards in Las Vegas. In the meantime, read on for part one of what we did and who we saw...

Over the Weekend: 99-Cent Calendar Girls, Indie 103.1's First Fridays, Reindeers & Spheres at Gagosian
Gendy Alimurung kicked off the weekend early and attended Thursday night's performance of Ken Roht's 99-Cent Only Calendar Girls Competition musical at the Bootleg Theater. The show pays tribute to L.A.'s favorite place for discount shopping and, with each performance, crowns a new queen of kitsch. Read more about Gendy's 99-cent experience in her Style Council blog post and check out all her photos in the Calendar Girls Competition slideshow.

Indie 103.1 Presents First Fridays at the Natural History Museum
Over the Weekend: 99-Cent Calendar Girls, Indie 103.1's First Fridays, Reindeers & Spheres at Gagosian
Indie 103.1 FM kicked off 2009's First Fridays lecture and live music series at the Natural History Museum on Friday night. The Little Ones and Plants and Animals performed and there was certainly no shortage of taxidermied animals and other interesting things to look at in between bands. Check out all of Timothy Norris' photos in his First Fridays slideshow.

Reindeers & Spheres Opening Night at Gagosian Gallery
Over the Weekend: 99-Cent Calendar Girls, Indie 103.1's First Fridays, Reindeers & Spheres at Gagosian
On Saturday night, George Ducker mingled with the rich and not-necessarily-famous at the opening of Carsten Höller's new exhibit Reindeers & Spheres. Like every other opening at Gagosian gallery, this show brought out the beautiful people by the truckload. Read more about the swanky Beverly Hills scene and also about a shriveled green reindeer in Ducker's review, "Watching People Watch Other People: Reindeers & Spheres Opening Night @ Gagosian Gallery."
