NYU Beats USC in Foreign Students, But California Is King
The biggest magnet for foreign college students in the United States is no longer USC.
The University Park school was beat out by New York University in this year's "Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange," published by the Institute of International Education in partnership with the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
Even though USC was one of only four universities in the nation to break through the 10,000-international-student mark for the first time, its 12-year streak as the number one destination for overseas students came to an end in 2013-2014, the report says.
The Trojans continued to increase their foreign student population, with 10,932 calling the campus home , the report says. It's just that NYU did even better by attracting 11,164 students from overseas.
The Institute of International Education says:
New York University is now the host of the largest number of international students, moving up from the number four spot. The University of Southern California is now the second leading host, after twelve years as number one. These two universities were followed by University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Columbia University (moving up to #4), and Purdue University. All of the top 25 host universities increased their number of international students; combined, they hosted 22 percent of all international students in the United States.
UCLA came in sixth place with 9,579 foreign students, according to the analysis.

With 121,647 foreign coeds, California continued to be the top American destination for overseas students, according to the Institute of International Education, which says:
California hosted more than 100,000 international students for the third year in a row, followed by New York, Texas, Massachusetts and Illinois.
