Murder Was the Case: L.A. Homicide No. 123, Update: San Pedro Victim Identified
A man was shot while walking with his brother in the 200 block of West Second Street in San Pedro, just after midnight on June 5.
Victim: Daniel Castro
According to police reports, Daniel Castro, 21, was walking with his brother when they were called by alleged shooter 22-year-old Edward Benavidez, who was standing in a park within the San Pedro Housing Development. The two brothers had a brief discussion with Benavidez before he walked away. Benavidez allegedly returned a short time later with a gun and fired several rounds at the brothers, striking Daniel Castro, who was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center where he died of his wounds.
Detectives picked up Benavidez a short time later at his apartment located in the 1000 block of West Eighth Street. Police allege the motive of the shooting was gang-related.
