Murder was the Case: LA Homicide No. 120, Update: Son Charged with Stabbing Mother to Death in Reseda Home
The 23-year-old son of a school teacher was charged today with her murder. Bryan Garcia-Munguia is charged with one count of murder with a special allegation that he used a knife.
Saida Munguia, 40, was stabbed multiple times in the chest at her apartment in the 7600 block of Reseda Boulevard Monday afternoon around 3 p.m. on June 1. Munguia, who taught English as a second language at Kennedy High School in Granada Hills, was discovered by relatives inside a locked bedroom after they found blood on the doorknob of the apartment, leading them to follow a bloody trail.
Garcia-Munguia was arrested that evening around 11 p.m. at a Denny's restaurant near the home he shared with his mother. He briefly struggled with his uncle before he was detained by family members who were standing in the parking lot.
In a dramatic moment that was captured on ABC7, Garcia-Munguia kept saying that he didn't do anything to his mother while officers put handcuffs on him.
Garcia-Munguia, who pleaded not guilty to the murder charge, is being held on $1.2 million bail. If convicted, he faces 16 years to life in prison.
