Moises Castro, L.A. Homicide No. 76: Tagger Fatally Shot by Gang Members

A man who was fatally shot by alleged gang members in Boyle Heights March 29 has been identified as 25-year-old Moises Castro.

Police said Castro was a member of a tagging crew called Catch the Metro. Castro was shot in the chest and back by three Breed Street gangsters in an alleyway around 1:05 p.m. in the 2500 block of Michigan Avenue. Police suspect Castro got into a verbal argument with the gangsters before the shooting.

"Tagging was probably a motive for the murder," said LAPD Hollenbeck division detective Jose Ramirez. "Some gangs take it to heart. They don't want to see anyone tag in their neighborhood." The shooters fled the scene but were arrested by police at a nearby apartment complex a few hours later. Castro was transported to a local hospital where he died of his injuries. Anyone with information about the shooting should contact LAPD Hollenbeck Division detectives at (323) 526-3679.
