A spectacular meteor shower put on a show in the skies above L.A. tonight, and some of it was captured on video (on the next page).
... "likely associated with the South Taurids."
What's that? "Meteoroid streams" that were actually expected about this time of the month, according to EarthSky:
In 2013, the thin waxing crescent moon will set at early evening on November 4, leaving dark skies for the peak night of the South Taurid meteor shower.
And still, we were clearly unprepared.
Scientist Laura Danly told CBS Los Angeles the "meteoroids" are essentially space rocks burning up as they enter our atmosphere.
The show inspired some to circulate allegedly fake photos, while others shared the real thing. Here's some of the local response on Twitter.
