Marijuana Boat Runs Aground in Malibu (PHOTOS)

So you paddle out just beyond surf line at Malibu's Leo Carrillo State Park, with the mellow sounds of Bob Marley playing in your head, when you spot a boat full of marijuana getting beached nearby.
The only thing you need now is waterproof lighter and a beer with a lime in it. But no. Your hopes and dreams are dashed. In this case, authorities were quickly on the scene.
What they found was quite the boatload of pot, along with three suspects:
It happened yesterday morning. L.A. Sheriff's Department officials say they were contacted by state park rangers about 8 a.m. regarding the search for men who had been aboard the so-called "panga."
After the 30-foot boat came ashore on the sand authorities could smell leaking gasoline and marijuana, according to a sheriff's statement. That could have made for a gnarly bonfire. Firefighters were called to the scene as a precaution, apparently.
Rangers had one suspect in custody, deputies said, but two others who ran off were on the loose.
So they called in the cavalry, including, says the sheriff's department: the California Highway Patrol, the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the multi-agency Border Enforcement Security Taskforce (BEST), county firefighters, and county lifeguards.
You know what? It worked, allegedly: Two other suspects were nabbed, deputies said.
So how much suspected weed was there? Well, you can see the photos for yourself. All the sheriff's department would say is that Homeland Security Investigations took the alleged pot (lucky bastards) and would weigh it.
The suspects were turned over to BEST "for questioning," according to a sheriff's statement. Such suspected drug-running pangas usually come up from Mexico.
As far as any surfers in the area go, they'll just have to make do with higher quality medical marijuana.
