Greater Los Angeles is home to the biggest Halloween street party in America, the West Hollywood Halloween Carnival, so it should come as no surprise that we've been ranked as a top Halloween city in the United States.

But the latest "Trick-or-Treat Index" from the folks at real estate site Zillow is focused less on adult fare and more on what the kids can get out of this virtual beer holiday that has been hijacked by party people way too old to be dressing as Disney characters.

"The index identifies cities where kids can get the most candy, in the least amount of time, in the safest areas," Zillow explained in a statement.

In this context, Los Angeles ranked third in the nation. We were beat by No. 1 San Francisco and No. 2 San Jose. Milwaukee and Phoenix rounded out the top five.

L.A.'s top trick-or-treat neighborhoods, where young ones will find the finest confections, are all wealthy enclaves. We're sure they'll welcome a bunch of brown kids (Los Angeles is about three-fourths minority) to their doorsteps.

They are No. 1 Pacific Palisades, Beverly Glen (2), Brentwood (3), Cheviot Hills (4) and Beverlywood (5).

The site explained its neighborhood methodology previously:

There is a common belief that wealthy neighborhoods are the Holy Grail for harvesting the most Halloween candy. However, to provide a more holistic approach to Halloween trick-or-treating, the Zillow Trick-or-Treat Housing Index was calculated using four equally weighted data variables: Zillow Home Value Index, population density, Walk Score and local crime data.

Now prepare to get that candy.
