Los Alamitos Mayor Quits Over Watermelongate
Los Alamitos Mayor Dean "I'm Not a Racist" Grose is resigning both as mayor and city councilman in the wake of a controversy surrounding his emailing of a "joke" that pictured the White House lawn converted into a watermelon patch.
"No Easter Egg hunt this year,"read the caption.
More like, "No Mayor Grose this year." At first Grose let it be known over the weekend that he'd only step down as mayor, but the ensuing outcry forced him to also surrender his council seat -- "For the love of my community," Grose wrote in his resignation letter, "and the health and well-being of my family" etc. Last week Grose arrived at his business, Event Medical Services, to find a smashed watermelon on its steps.
