Re: Booth
I enjoyed “Indigenous Indignation” by Dwayne “Mr. Fish”
Booth [November 30–December 6]. What a clever writer, with surprising
twists at every turn, and reality recognizable in all his descriptions. Discovering
such work makes “buying” L.A. Weekly worthwhile. More articles by
this sharp fellow, please!
Re: Burbs
Regarding the article by Gendy Alimurung titled “Hollywood Schmoozer Meets
Internet Geek” [November 16–22]: What is a “Berkeley suburb”?
Berkeley is too small to have suburbs of its own. If the author means a town
abutting Berkeley — such as El Cerrito, Kensington, etc. — these
are East Bay towns that, while not having Berkeley’s cachet, don’t
need a Berkeley reference to be placed in a larger context. They’re in
the megalopolis known as “the Bay Area.”
Honors Roll
Two L.A. Weekly contributors received good news recently. A music essay about
Horace Tapscott by Matthew Duersten [“The Arkivists,” April 7–13,
2006] made the “Other Notable Essays” list in the Da Capo Best Music
Writing 2007 anthology.
And artist Erik Sandberg’s cover illustration for a January 26–Feb.
1, 2007, story by David Zahniser titled “The End of Murder” won
a silver medal in the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles’ Illustration
West 46 contest. His work will be included in a show at Junc Gallery that will
be on view March 29-April 8, 2008.
