L.A.'s Holiday DUI Crackdown Is Coming to a Street Near You
A coalition of cops throughout Los Angeles is preparing for a huge holiday DUI crackdown.
It gets into high gear this weekend with dozens of checkpoints throughout the area. The Los Angeles County DUI Coalition calls it the Winter Holiday DUI Campaign.
It lasts for 17 days, through New Year's weekend, authorities say, and includes 38 checkpoints and 54 saturation patrols in which extra units will hit the streets in search of drunk drivers.
Cops say they want you to know where they'll be because it dissuades people from drinking and driving. These cheat sheets save lives.
"It’s time for all drivers to get the message,” said Glendora Police Chief Tim Staab. "Impaired driving is a choice you make, and when you make that choice, people get hurt or die."
Here's the 411, according to the L.A. County DUI Task Force:
-Tonight there will be DUI checkpoints in the following cities and communities: Alhambra, Arcadia, Azusa, Claremont, Culver City, Gardena, Glendale, Glendora, Pasadena (7 p.m. to 3 a.m.), Pomona, Redondo Beach, South Gate, Torrance, Whittier, South L.A., Newhall, Santa Fe Springs, LAPD's Southwest Division area, LAPD's Wilshire Division area, Compton and Malibu.
-Tonight DUI saturation patrols will strike in the following areas: Culver City, Glendora, Monterey Park, Pomona, central Los Angeles, LAPD's Central Bureau area (downtown and beyond), LAPD's Foothill Division area.
