The party people of the Los Angeles Police Department don't like to let a good opportunity pass them by.
Even though Labor Day weekend doesn't start until Aug. 29, they're starting their traditional, end-of-summer DUI crackdown this weekend. Kind of like that one guy we all know who likes to celebrate his birthday for half a month.
But here's what it's really about: This will give the cops plenty of time to bust you. The good thing here is that police are warning you where they'll be. The idea is that if you know for sure that they're hunting drunks behind the wheel, maybe you'll think twice about driving under the influence. Here's the 411:
-Tonight from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. there will be an LAPD DUI checkpoint waiting for you on Western Avenue and Eighth Street in beautiful Koreatown.
-Tonight from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. there will be another checkpoint not far away, on Olympic Boulevard and Blaine Street, near Staples Center.
-Tonight from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. the cops in the Valley will be on checkpoint duty at Sepulveda Boulevard and Parthenia Street.
-Tonight from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. the L.A. County Sheriff's Department will have a checkpoint waiting for you somewhere in the city of Lakewood (they're not saying exactly where).
-Tonight from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. sheriff's deputies will be on checkpoint duty somewhere in the city of Malibu (again, they're not telling us the exact address).
-Saturday from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. there will extra patrol cars and police motorcycles searching for DUI drivers on the streets of the LAPD's 77th Street Division of South L.A. The department calls it a "saturation patrol."

-Saturday from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. the L.A. County Sheriff's Department will be operating a checkpoint somewhere in the city of Pico-Rivera (they're not saying exactly where).
-Sunday from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. the LAPD's Foothill Division area of the Valley gets the saturation patrol treatment.
Tune in next week for the even more Labor Day crackdown info. Until then, be safe.
