L.A. Music Festival Fan Murdered
A man who attended a summer music festival died after he was attacked on the streets of Hollywood, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
The LAPD said in a statement that the victim, 54-year-old Louie Rodriguez, had attended the "Hollywood Music Festival," but we couldn't find such an event on that date. A lieutenant told us it was likely he had been at the Sunset Strip Music Festival in nearby West Hollywood, which was happening the night of the crime—Sept. 21.
Rodriguez died yesterday at a hospital "as a result of his injuries," the department stated.
The victim had been on a motorized transportation device at Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue when he was struck at about 12:40 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21 police said.
According to the department's statement:
Rodriguez was assaulted and punched by the suspect, causing him to fall backwards and hit his head. The suspect left on foot and the motive for this assault is unknown.
As far as investigators can tell, the violence was random, the lieutenant said.

"Sometimes we get people out there looking for trouble," he said. "We don't think the victim was look for trouble. But the suspect might have fought others."
For that reason, cops think there are more witnesses out there, maybe even some who took photos or captured video of the attack.
The suspect is described as a 6-feet-tall, twentysomething Latino with gauged ears.
