L.A. Is America's 3rd Funniest City? We Beg to Differ
Zach Galifianakis via Star Foreman for LA Weekly.
A new ranking has Los Angeles in the top three when it comes to "The 50 Funniest Cities in America."
Usually, we'd be happy if we were in the top 10 for anything good, given that L.A. is such an underdog metropolis. (The readers of Conde Nast Traveler recently ranked Los Angeles as the sixth most unfriendly city in the U.S. of A.). But we have to take issue with coming in third place in this particular race:
L.A. is the epicenter of American comedy. Every aspiring comedian knows that they have to come here to make it. Hollywood Improv. Comedy Store. Laugh Factory. The Groundlings. The Second City. Ice House. Upright Citizens Brigade. Leno. The Shore family. Jamie Masada.
Which legends call/called L.A. home? Only Johnny Carson, George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Sarah Silverman, Eddie Murphy, Steve Martin, George Lopez, Adam Carolla, Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Kimmel, Katt Williams, Paul Rodriguez ... and on and on.

OK, so we don't have Seinfeld and Louis C.K. Well, excuse us.
In fact, New York, where those two live, would be the only challenger to our supreme status as the world's epicenter of laughter. And it ranked fifth! (See the whole list here).
Andy Richter via Star Foreman for LA Weekly.
This is one case where L.A. and New York can embrace and say we was robbed together.
The ranking was put together by real estate site Movoto. A rep tells us it was based on the "number of comedy clubs and comedy festivals, where comedians were born or currently live, location of sitcoms, [and] improv groups per capita."
Location of sitcoms? Are there TV sitcoms shot outside of L.A?
According to our Movoto source:
L.A. is pretty funny, but not as funny as Atlanta, the most hilarious city in America. Portland is pretty boring, as it barely cracked the Top 20.
Atlanta? For real? That is hilarious.
