A man has been arrested for allegedly murdering rapper Kid Cali, aka Justin Lishey, at a Granada Hills pool party last month, the Los Angeles Police Department announced this afternoon.
Cops allege that 19-year-old Kenny Birdine of Inglewood opened fire on the young artist, fatally wounding him, and that the motive was gang-related, LAPD Officer Drake Madison said. Today the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office charged Birdine with suspicion of first-degree murder, he said.
Cali, who once was signed to NFL wide receiver DeSean Jackson's record label, Jaccpot Entertainment, was gunned down at an Aug. 20 event billed as the "Millions of Models Mansion Pool Party." Chris Brown affiliate Kid Red was scheduled to make an appearance, according to a digital flier for the party.

It's not clear exactly what sparked the violence. "Due to the ongoing investigation, detectives aren't releasing any additional information at this time, except that it was gang-motivated," Madison said.
Rappers Snoop Dogg, T.I. and Chris Brown lamented Cali's death via social media.
Birdine was being held in lieu of more than $3 million bail, police said. He was arrested Saturday by LAPD Valley Bureau detectives, according to cops and to sheriff's inmate records.
It's not immediately clear when the suspect was due in court.
