Kemberly Arrue, L.A. 6-Year-Old, Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver While Chasing Ball Into Street
Kemberly's shoes remained in the street after she was killed.
A dark, possibly black SUV with tinted windows was responsible for the death of 6-year-old Kemberly Arrue last night. The most sickening part: After striking the small girl as she ran out onto the street to retrieve her ball, the SUV sped off in a selfish panic.
The hit-and-run accident took place at 9:45 p.m. in the 600 block of West 49th Place, just west of Figueroa Street in South L.A. -- right beside the 110 freeway. ABC7 reports that Arrue was playing in her front yard before the devastating collision.
LAPD Officer Karen Rayner told City News Service that the 6-year-old was quickly transported to a hospital, but was declared dead upon arrival.
Police are currently hunting down driver of the SUV, which is expected to have front-end damage from the impact of killing the South L.A. girl., and may have headlight damage as well.
"She went to go get the ball across the street and a car just popped out of nowhere and just hit her," witness Jonathan Antepara told ABC7. "He never stopped and just kept on going."
