Karen Bass Makes A Run For L.A. Congressional Seat

California Assembly Speaker Karen Bass officially announced Wednesday that she's running for L.A.'s central city congressional seat.

The 33rd Congressional District seat, which represents Koreatown, Hancock Park, the Wilshire corridor, the Miracle Mile district, Little Armenia, Hollywood, Los Feliz, Silver Lake, Baldwin Hills, Ladera Heights, Mid-Wilshire, View Park, and Windsor Hills., is being vacated by a retiring Diane Watson.

It's an exceptionally diverse, "minority-majority," middle-class district with Latinos as a plurality and strong, African-American, white and Asian-American communities. Bass, a Democrat, is the first black woman to serve as the Golden State's assembly speaker.

"It would of course be a tremendous honor to represent the people of this district in Congress,'' the 56-year-old said.

Fellow Democrat Watson has thrown her support behind Bass, calling her "tailor-made for this multi-cultural, multi-ethnic district."
