If You Hate the DWP, It's Offering the Public Refreshments and a Mic This Week
They're calling it a community meeting, and it's the public's chance to meet a key DWP leader and give the agency a piece of your mind about how L.A.'s least popular department can go green, perhaps without ripping off residents on electricity and water rates or those special fees and taxes for which DWP is notorious.
The agency will even review your bill if you bring it with you.
The meeting, expected to draw some media interest, is hosted by SCOPE, a South Los Angeles political organization that is, among other goals, trying to create jobs in the region and has a savvy political campaign team in place (and, in fact, is hiring a political campaign manager just now).
The meeting is at SCOPE's offices at 1715 W. Florence Ave., just blocks away from where the Rodney King riots broke out. The group says one of its goals is to "bring climate consciousness to South L.A."
But SCOPE isn't the only group that gets to have its say. All are welcome.
Here are the deets from the DWP press release:
Join us tomorrow for a community meeting with the General Manager of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, Marcie Edwards. This meeting will give you the opportunity to learn about the significant investments that DWP will be making to upgrade aging infrastructure, meet our state's clean energy goals and decrease our reliance on imported water.
... This meeting will also provide an opportunity for community members to engage with the department’s leadership in ensuring that investments are truly benefiting all of our communities. This means bringing more jobs to South Los Angeles residents and improved services.
... Customer service representatives will also be on hand to answer questions about your bill and/or service. Refreshments will be served. You can RSVP for the meeting by clicking here.
