Hollywood Sign Covered to Save Land from Home Development

This is the first time that the Hollywood Sign will be altered with the permission of the City. Barry Sanders the President of the Board of Commissioners of the Recreation and Parks Department of the City of Los Angeles attended the press conference to urge the public to donate both big and small to the Trust for Public Land's efforts to "Save The Peak". They must raise 12.5 Million dollars by April 14, 2010.

The land in question, the Cahuenga peak, was once the property of Howard Hughes. In 2002, it was sold to a development group, who put it back on the market in 2008. The Trust for Public Land is trying to raise funds to buy the property for preservation purposes. Thursdays stunt, which had been vague until nearly the last minute, comes in an attempt to raise awareness, and consequently funds, for the project.

The sign will be covered for five days. For more information, go to savehollywoodland.org
