Female "Pink Shoe Bandit" Faces Charges in L.A.
They call her the "Pink Shoe Bandit," and not because she could reach down and sling a stiletto at misbehaving children, like Eddie Murphy's shoe-throwing mom.
No, this particular footwear-involved spree involved the robbery of local fast-food restaurants and electronics stores, the L.A. County District Attorney's office alleges.
Sometimes the suspect carried a gun, prosecutors said:
The woman, identified as 22-year-old Chelle Michelle Swan, was hit yesterday with a case that includes 18 counts of robbery, the D.A.'s office says.
According to a statement from prosecutors:
Prosecutors said the crimes occurred between February 7 and May 29 and on six occasions multiple robberies happened on the same day. The suspect was armed with a gun in some of the robberies and was called the "Pink Shoe Bandit" by police because of her light-colored footwear.
According to L.A. County Sheriff's Department inmate data, Swan was arrested Monday by LAPD's elite Robbery-Homicide Division. She has multiple booking files in the Sheriff's system. For example, she was arrested in March by Culver City police for reasons unknown. In that case, Swan was quickly released.
For this alleged caper, she was booked and jailed at a Lynwood regional lock-up in lieu of $800,000 bail, according to sheriff's information.
The defendant faces as much as 50 years in prison if she's successfully convicted, prosecutors say.
Robbery-Homicide detectives are continuing to investigate the string of L.A.-area hold-ups.
