Ex-Ram Tony Zendejas Beats Rape Charge
According to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune and other sources, former Los Angeles Rams place kicker Antonio "Tony" Zendejas was acquitted today of rape by a Pomona Superior Court jury. Zendejas, 48, had been accused of two felonies: rape by use of drugs and sodomy by use of drugs. The prosecution alleged that in January, 2008, Zendejas had drugged a woman in his San Dimas restaurant, taken her to a Red Roof Inn and raped her in one of the motel's rooms. Zendejas, who'd been arrested at his Yorba Linda home the following July, claimed the sex was consensual; the prosecution was unable to show medical evidence of a date-rape drug in the woman's blood. Jurors took only two hours to acquit Zendejas of the charges that could have landed him in prison for 13 years.
