Evergreen Cemetery Memorial Honors Chinese
L.A. Eastside's El Random Hero has noticed that something new has been added to Evergreen Cemetery, and it's not more bodies. Well, in a way it has something to do with that. ERH was walking his dog when he spotted a new, city-installed plaque that gives a bit of the cemetery's rich history and acknowledges some of Los Angeles' notable Chinese families. The memorial also honors the more than 100 anonymous individuals whose bodies were unearthed in 2006 during the Gold Line's construction through Boyle Heights.
And, this being the city of short memories and fleeting fame, ERH sadly comments that "As I stopped to read it most people didn't bother to read [what] was on the plaque and only guessed at what it was. Then there are those who just say stupid, racist things and choose to completely ignore the importance of such a plaque."
