Here's one of the problems with naming celebrities as campaign co-chairs:

They do embarrassing things. President Obama's folks are probably holding their collective breath this week as a group of Latino Republicans accepted the apology of Obama camp co-chair Eva Longoria for saying, essentially, that Mitt Romney is a twat.

Which is probably true. It's just that, if you're representing the most-powerful man on the planet, you don't tell the truth:

Hollywood celeb and former desperate housewife Longoria made the mistake of retweeting someone else's contention:

I have no idea why any woman/minority can vote for Romney. You have to be stupid to vote for such a racist/misogynistic twat

Right?

Later she tried to make it seem as if she were simply having technical difficulties, tweeting late last week, according to the Huffington Post:

Is anyone else's twitter bugging out? There are things in my timeline I didn't retweet today. Hmmm? Standby trying to fix!
Longoria.

Later she took responsibility for Twatgate, tweeting, "Sorry if people were offended by retweet. Obviously not my words or my personal view. I respect all Americans."

(All these tweets, BTW, seem to have been scrubbed from Longoria's feed).

Today Cafe Con Leche Republicans, a pro-immigrant GOP organization that had called her out on the retweet, said it accepted Longoria's move to distance herself from the fact that Romney is a twat.

Bob Quasius of Cafe Con Leche (and note here that the group's title means coffee with milk, as in, you know, brown and white conservatives working together for the greater good of white conservatives):

@EvaLongoria
Eva has apologized publicly for retweeting a remark that many conservative women and minorities found offensive. We accept her sincere apology, and appreciate Eva's immigration reform activism and years of charitable efforts ...

The lesson here? Watch your words if you're a presidential campaign co-chair. The rest of you are free to describe Romney as your fave genitalia.
