Ethics Fines For L.A. Council Members Garcetti, Huizar, Wesson, Cardenas
Looks like Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa wasn't the only leader in City Hall invited to this here party. But, unlike other events officials have attended, this one will cost you.
Yeah, four City Council members got caught up in ticketgate and will also have to pay Ethics Commission fines for accepting valuable tix to events and failing to report them as gifts.
Welcome to the shidig, Eric Garcetti, Jose Huizar, Herb Wesson and Tony Cardenas.
Their transgressions, however, don't hold a candle to the mayor's acceptance of tickets to 80-something events and his subsequent deal to pay $42,000 in fines; the four councilmen will only pay up $13,000 combined.
What's interesting about this story is that the organizations that gave up the tix will also see fines.
We're talking $13,250 for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (producer of the Academy Awards); $8,300 for the Recording Academy (producer of the Grammy Awards); $7,900 for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (Emmy Awards); $3,900 for BET (BET Awards); and $799 for Anschutz Entertainment Group (Lakers Games; Staples Center).
Garcetti got a $4,800 fine for accepting tix to the Oscars in 2007 and 2007 and the Emmy Awards in 2007.
Huizar's bill is $2,100 for accepting tickets to the 2007 Academy Awards.
Wesson's fine, $3,900, is for accepting tix to the BET Awards from 2007 to 2009.
Cardenas was hit with a $2,500 fine for going to the 2008 Emmy Awards gratis.
The city Ethics Commission was expected to approve the fines Tuesday.
