Mayor Eric Garcetti will begin raising money for his re-election campaign next month with a concert featuring aughts sensation Michelle Branch.

The fundraiser will be held April 30 at Avalon Hollywood. Tickets are $1,400 apiece, which is the most an individual can contribute to citywide campaigns.

"We're just gonna make sure we raise the maximum amount of money we can under the law," said Bill Carrick, Garcetti's campaign consultant.

Miguel will also perform, as will other artists to be announced later. Garcetti will also address the crowd, perhaps offering a preview of his case for a second term.

So far, no major contenders have indicated any interest in challenging Garcetti in 2017. The only other announced candidate is Y.J. Draiman, who also ran in 2013. He finished last in a field of eight with 0.41 percent of the vote.

The rules allow candidates to begin fundraising two years before the election. By amassing a war chest early, Garcetti may discourage any potential rivals.

"I don't think we're in campaign mode," Carrick said. Right now, he said the strategy "is to try to do a good job as mayor and get things done, and [then] go to the voters and say here’s what we’re doing, and here’s what we've got to do."
