Ed Roski Jr. Sells 'Los Angeles Stadium' to the O.C.
The San Gabriel Valley Trib's James Wagner reports on the new tone of self-confidence (or hubris) displayed by mega-developer Ed Roski Jr. and representatives of his Majestic Realty Company. Roski's long political fight to build a 75,000-seat sports stadium/retail complex in the City of Industry seems to be ending. With the city councils of neighboring Walnut and Diamond Bar bought off with multi-million dollar "mitigation packages," and with the state legislature rubber-stamping Industry's petition to waive environmental-study rules, Roski and company are now already selling luxury suites inside the stadium that has not broken construction ground nor has secured a franchise agreement from a National Football League team to relocate to the junction of the 57 and 60 freeways.
Wagner writes that Majestic brass hats have been visiting Costa Mesa to pitch Orange County burghers on the benefits of purchasing one of the proposed stadium's 176 club suites or 12,500 club seats. One Majestic honcho painted the upscale cachet of the new stadium this way: "We're as close to Beverly Hills as Newport Beach."
Even though Roski's stadium exists only on paper today (with the return
of NFL play to the Los Angeles basin not even alive on paper), according to Wagner, at least Roski's group has a working title for the
complex: Los Angeles Stadium. To Roski's O.C. well-heeled audiences that must sound a lot silkier
than City of Industry Stadium.
