E-Cigarette Ban Would Target Teens in L.A.

You electronic cigarette smokers think you're all down-low and stuff, puffing in bars and clubs and just plain doing it in cases where a regular cig in the hand would get you busted.

Well, it looks like the law is finally starting to catch up with you. The California legislature is weighing a bill that would treat e-cigarettes like regular ones (meaning you could no longer take drags in restaurants and other smoke-free zones). And now the city of L.A. might just be ruining all the fun for you underage electronic cigarette fans out there:
L.A. City Councilman Paul Koretz introduced a motion yesterday that would ban the sale of e-cigarettes to those under 18 for at least 45 days and possibly permanently.
The councilman asked the L.A. City Attorney's office to prepare the law for the City Council's future consideration.
He cited Seal Beach's recent 45-day ban on electronic cigarette sales to minors as an example of how to deal with the trend.
Koretz cites stats that say teen e-cigarette use has more than doubled from 2011 to 2012 so that now 1 in 10 high schoolers have puffed electronically.
"The use of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) is on the rise among adolescents and young adults," his motion says.
The proposal follows Koretz' motion last month to have the City Attorney draw up a law that would raise the age for tobacco purchases in L.A. from 18 to 21.
For young adults, there's always marijuana. Especially in L.A.
