DUI Patrols Hit Hollywood, Downtown L.A. Tonight
This summer in January stuff might make you want to go out and party like it's the 4th of July. Woo-hoo!
Understandable. But also understand that Los Angeles Police Department officers, some in short sleeves, will be on the hunt for drunk drivers this weekend, rain or shine.
The department says that warning motorists about where its cops will be and when they'll be there actually reduces drunk driving:
Research shows that traffic collisions involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols are conducted routinely.
So here you go:
-Tonight from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. the LAPD will have extra police cars and motorcycles on the streets of its Hollywood Division area. The department calls it a DUI saturation patrol.
-Tonight from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. the department will be running a saturation patrol in its Central Bureau area, which includes downtown, the Eastside, northeast communities, Westlake, Echo Park, and more.
-Tonight from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. a saturation patrol will hit the streets of the Harbor Division area, which includes San Pedro, Wilmington, Harbor Gateway and a small slice of Southeast L.A.
-Tonight from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. a checkpoint will be waiting for you at Sepulveda Boulevard at Raymer Street in the overpriced housing mecca of Van Nuys (one recent listing: $1.5 million—for Van Nuys?!).
-Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. an LAPD saturation patrol will target the drunk drivers of the Harbor Division area.
