After a rare August cooldown, summer temperatures are expected to rise again this weekend. Forecasters are blaming a high-pressure system, but we suspect the Los Angeles Police Department has something to do with it.

You see, the LAPD will be bringing the heat to our streets this weekend — starting tonight, in fact.

At least the LAPD and other agencies have the courtesy to warn us about where they'll be and when they'll be there. Los Angeles police have long said letting potential drunk drivers know they're on the hunt could reduce DUI deaths.

Here's the plan, according to local law enforcement:

Tonight from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., extra officers will hit the streets of the LAPD's Central Bureau, which includes downtown, Boyle Heights and areas west and south of downtown. Police call this kind of operation a DUI "saturation patrol."

Tonight from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., a checkpoint will be running on Manchester Avenue at Denver Avenue in South Los Angeles.

Tonight from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m., Pasadena police will be operating a checkpoint at an undisclosed location in their fair city.

Tonight from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., sheriff''s deputies will be running a checkpoint at an undisclosed location in the city of Lancaster.

Saturday from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., a checkpoint will be waiting for you on Van Nuys Boulevard at Roscoe Boulevard in Panorama City.

Sunday from noon to 8 p.m., a saturation patrol will be taking place in the LAPD's Southwest Division, which includes neighborhoods west of USC, Baldwin Village, the Crenshaw area and more.

Sunday from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m., a saturation patrol will hit the streets of the LAPD's Van Nuys Division.

Sunday from 6 to 11 p.m., a checkpoint will be awaiting your arrival on Manchester Avenue and Hoover Street in South L.A.

Be safe.
