David Thompson Jumps From Redondo Beach Pier With Friend, Remains Missing
A 22-year-old man who jumped off Redondo Beach Pier with a female companion over the weekend remained missing despite search efforts. He was ID'd as David Thompson.
Authorities say the woman, who came ashore and remains unidentified, was "intoxicated" and had to be checked out at a hospital. At first she said she jumped alone, according to police. But she quickly changed her tune:

... Fox 11 News reported that the man had held the woman up in the water as he called for help after the two hit the surf.
She was pushed into dry land by the swell, but he disappeared after a sizable wave came up on him, the station stated.
ABC7 said the two might have dared each other to jump and that alcohol was being considered as a possible factor here.
It happened at 11:08 p.m. Saturday, according to police.
Authorities, including lifeguards and U.S. Coast Guard rescuers, searched for the man until about 3 a.m. and resumed at daybreak Sunday, to no avail, reports the Daily Breeze.
Police even went to the Redondo Beach home of the man to see if maybe he made it back some how, according to City News Service. He had not.
The water is cold, about 58 degrees, and can't be survived for too long without a wetsuit.
