California Is one of America's "Sexiest States"
It's the week before Valentine's Day, and everyone seems to have a sexy list.
This one comes from the folks at eBay, who looked at auction (and "buy it now") sales of camisoles, chemises, silk robes, flannel pajamas, footed pajamas and cotton pajamas to determine which American states are the most "dressed to impressed" for romance and which were "snoozing in frumpy flannel," according to a statement.
The site calls its analysis "Fifty States of Grey" in anticipation of the light-bondage flick Fifty Shades of Grey, which opens Friday.
eBay gave us its top 10 "sexiest states." California came in eighth place. Not bad.
We were beat out by number 7 Idaho (?), though. The top three winners include Hawaii (1), Wyoming (2) and Arizona (3). The site says:
... The hype around Fifty Shades has fans racing to shop for lingerie, luxury items and intimates of their own – with eBay sales data revealing that the U.S. is truly "Fifty States of Grey."

eBay says that lingerie sales have been through the roof since the Fifty Shades trailer was revealed in July. Fleur of England sales increased 438 percent, Polo Ralph Lauren underwear sales increased 129 percent, and Agent Provocateur sales increased 100 percent, the site said.
In any case, here's our theory on California's not-high-enough showing in this ranking:
We're probably the top sexy state in the union when it comes to purchasing unmentionables for bedroom activity.
L.A. is the birthplace of the original lingerie store, Frederick's of Hollywood, we're the home of sexually-charged clothier American Apparel, and adult retailers—Hustler Hollywood, Pleasure Chest, Adult Warehouse—abound.
The Bay Area, obsessed with leather and latex, is even freakier than we are.
Our point is, why would Californians use eBay for their perverted needs when there's a store down the street to accommodate us? Hustler Hollywood on the Sunset Strip announced this week that it will be open 24 hours starting on Friday. You know, for those necessary Valentine's Day purchases.
With this much brick-and-mortar action, do you really need to bid on handcuffs? (Maybe you do).
