A Metro driver died when the bus she was operating collided with a flatbed tow truck in downtown this morning, authorities said.
That truck ended up plowing into a 7-Eleven at 457 S. Broadway, the L.A. Fire Department stated:
The collision was reported at 5:09 p.m., LAFD reported. Officer Bruce Borihanh of the Los Angeles Police Department tells us the truck also sheared off a fire hydrant nearby.
The driver was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, he said. The LAFD described her as a
35-year-old woman, but Metro's Dave Sotero could not confirm that for us.

He said she was just starting to run line 18 with an empty bus when the collision happened. The bus was headed west on Fifth Street when it collided with the tow truck, which was going south on Broadway, Sotero said.
The tow truck driver was hospitalized in critical condition, Borihanh said. An employee inside the 7-Eleven was said by LAFD to have sustained minor injuries, but Borihanh told us that person was checked out at the scene and released.
Building inspectors were combing the 7-Eleven's structure to see if it's still sound, he said.
The cause of the accident was still under investigation, but LAPD Sgt. Rudy Lopez told
CBS Los Angeles:
It appears, based on witness testimony and (security) video footage, the tow truck driver was at fault.
