Bomb Scare at 94.7 The Wave Empties Headquarters of KNX, KFWB and the SEC
Updated at bottom. Originally posted at 10:30 a.m. Confused commuters were listening to San Francisco Bay Area traffic and weather this morning because of a bomb scare at the headquarters of KNX 1070 Newsradio. The station has been broadcasting the stream of its sister station, San Francsico's KCBS, since its Wilshire Boulevard offices were evacuated a little after 8:30 a.m.
A receptionist at 5670 Wilshire Blvd. identified a package, described as "oddly wrapped" with beeping noises coming from inside. The suspicious package was addressed to one of the on-air personalities on KTWV, aka 94.7 The Wave, whose offices are in the same building.
All 27 floors of the building, which in addition to KNX, KFWB and KTWV houses several law offices and the Los Angeles office of the Securities and Exchange Commission, have been emptied. KNX's Pete Demetriou told KCBS that the bomb squad arrived and isolated the package shortly after 9:50 a.m.

One final thought: The evacuation appears to have occurred at precisely the moment The Wave was scheduled to give away tickets to Barbra Streisand's show at the Hollywood Bowl... Coincidence? We think not.
