Beware, Koreatown Hipsters: An LAPD DUI Crackdown Is Headed Your Way

Koreatown has one of the highest concentrations of alcohol-related businesses in town. From karaoke-powered soju joints to DJ-driven hipster bars, it's a lush's wonderland.

The flip side to this marvel of nightlife is that, if you imbibe here, the cops are generally on to you. K-town is a perennial favorite of police looking to crack down on drunk drivers.

This weekend will be no different.

The Los Angeles Police Department says in a statement that "DUI checkpoints bring a laser focus to communities where DUI traffic collisions are occurring that are preventable through education and enforcement."

Here's the 411 on DUI operations in Koreatown and beyond, according to local authorities:

-Tonight from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., extra officers will be on the streets of the LAPD's Olympic Division, which includes Koreatown, Harvard Heights, Angelus Vista, the Byzantine-Latino Quarter, Windsor Square, Country Club Park and Arlington Heights. The department calls this a DUI "saturation patrol."

-Tonight from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., a checkpoint will be happening on Sepulveda Boulevard at Raymer Street in Van Nuys.

-Tonight from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m., a checkpoint will be awaiting your arrival at an undisclosed location in West Hollywood.

-Saturday from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., a checkpoint will be up and running on State Street at Fourth Street in Boyle Heights.

-Saturday from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., we're back on the edge of Koreatown with a checkpoint at Vermont Avenue at Beverly Boulevard.

-Sunday from noon to 8 p.m., a DUI saturation patrol will hit the streets of the LAPD's Southeast Division, which includes Watts, Harbor Gateway and parts of South L.A.

Be safe.
