Beware DUI Checkpoints in Silver Lake, Fairfax District This Weekend
After a holiday onslaught that gave us weeks' worth of DUI crackdowns in Los Angeles, you might think police would give it a break.
That's not gonna happen.
The Los Angeles Police Department says it will be back on the streets this weekend in its omnipresent hunt for drunk drivers. In a statement the LAPD said such operations are now part of "Vision Zero, which is the City of Los Angeles' goal of ending all traffic related collision deaths by 2025."
Lucky for you a key part of the authorities' strategy is to warn you where they'll be. This is done with the hope that you'll think twice about getting behind the wheel after one too many.
Here's what's happening:
-Tonight from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. an LAPD DUI checkpoint will be waiting for you at Fairfax Avenue and Fifth Street in the Fairfax District.
-Tonight from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. a checkpoint will be up and running on Topanga Canyon Boulevard at Califa Street in Woodland Hills.
-Saturday from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. extra police will hit the streets of the LAPD's 77th Street Division area in South L.A. for an operation the department calls a "DUI saturation patrol."
-Saturday from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. a checkpoint will be happening on Hyperion Avenue and Scotland Street in Silver Lake.
-Saturday from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. sheriff's deputies will be operating a checkpoint at an undisclosed location in the city of Compton or, if you prefer, Bompton (DUI transcends colors).
-Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. a saturation patrol will once again hit the streets of the 77th Street Division area in South L.A.
