Bail Reduced for Alleged Dolla Killer
A Los Angeles Superior Court judge lowered bail to $2.1 million for 23-year-old Aubrey Louis Berry, an Atlanta entertainment promoter who allegedly shot to death aspiring rapper Dolla. Berrys' bail was originally $5 million.
Judge Terry Bork said the bail reduction was "appropriate."
Atlanta Rapper Dolla
According to police reports, Berry shot rapper Roderick Burton, 21, as he was standing outside the Beverly Center with friends on May 18. Berry admitted to shooting the rapper but said it was in self-defense. In arguing for his client's bail to be reduced, defense attorney Howard Price said that his college-educated client fired in self-defense because he feared Dolla -- with whom he had an earlier confrontation with in an Atlanta nightclub -- was looking to shoot him after following him out to the valet parking area near P.F. Chang's China Bistro.
Price said it was a "terrible coincidence" that the two men ended up at the restaurant at the same time.
Deputy District Attorney Bobby Grace argued that Berry fired at
least eight times, hitting the rapper four times. Los Angeles police
detectives found eight bullet casings at the scene before Berry took
off in a rented SUV.
A few hours later, Berry was picked up as he was attempting to board a flight.
Dolla made his debut with the single "Who the Fuck is That?" He was
also a member of the hip hop group Da Razkalz Cru and went by the stage
name Bucklyte. Dolla, whose latest single, "Make a Toast," was released
November 4, 2008, was in Los Angeles to work on his first CD.
